Silver Coins 1964 and Earlier
Dimes, Quarters and Halves dating 1964 and earlier contain 90% silver. The vast majority of circulated coins that date from the mid 1930′s to 1964 are bought and sold as bullion. In circulated condition, these coins trade for roughly the value of the silver they contain, about twenty times their face value in early 2011.
About the Kennedy Half Dollar
The Kennedy half dollar replaced the Franklin half dollar and was first struck in 1964, less than a year after the assassination of JFK. In fact, the coin was designed a mere five days after Kennedy’s death. Gilroy Roberts, the former chief engraver of the United States Mint, was able to use the same profile of Kennedy that he had used to make Kennedy’s inaugural medal two years earlier.
Why Buy Coin Jewelry?
Not only is coin jewelry collectable, but it’s a fantastic way to display the coins you love, whether you’re an avid collector or first-time buyer! Coin jewelry is becoming more and more popular and has lasting style. It is a unique jewelry type as well as a fun and interesting way to display collectable coins.
It is believed that the people of the ancient Roman Empire popularized the use of coins in jewelry. Coin pendants were the most widely used style, as they could be worn by both men and women. The admirable soldiers of ancient Egypt were also adorned with coin jewelry. The coins were imprinted with regal portraits, similar to the way United States presidents and other great leaders are depicted on U.S. Mint coinage. Coin jewelry continues to be just as stylish today as it was thousands of years ago.
Coin jewelry can be an intriguing way to commemorate a special year or display a coin of particular significance. Many of the ancient coins used in coin jewelry are rare, one-of-a-kind or from a set of extremely low mintage. Most are in exceptionally good condition for the age of the coin. These factors make the coins historically significant and in high demand of collectors. Treat yourself or give as a gift. You’ll have a fashionable, collectable piece you can wear for a lifetime!
